The Usual Suspects
Fact!! The original cut of the smash-hit film The Usual Suspects, had 'And starring Kevin Spacey as Kayser Soze' at the end of the opening credits. Producers of the film agree this was a major contributor to this cut being a 'disaster' in audience testing. They claim the removal of this credit made the twist ending 'over 85% less predictable' and led directly to the film's later blockbusterdom.
Director Bryan Singer, on the other hand, credits the infinitely-greater success of the later cut not to the removal of this credit, but rather to the simultaneous removal of the 'ill-conceived' scene where Stephen Baldwin and Gabriel Byrne belted out, mid-heist, a toe-tapping version of Tom Jones' 'It's Not Unusual'.
Most independent observers agree it was probably a little bit of both.
