Queer Eye For The Straight Guy
I missed the opening episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy on Australian TV last night. Turned out to be highly annoying - ever since I'd first heard about the show I'd had a rare combination of misgivings and high hopes.
Misgivngs because of the use of the phrase 'queer eye' - surely, I thought, that's an unnecessary harshness. But, y'know, high hopes because this unique brand of relentlessly dedicated problem-solving has made for exemplary television in the past and I see no reason why it shouldn't do so again in the 21st Century.
Then, of course, my best friend Judd Nelson explained to me that I was more confused than would seem possible given my media-savvy rep and that contrary to my addled beliefs, the show wasn't a new series starring Peter Falk's straight-shootin' detective, Columbo. Well, okay. In that case I guess I can forgive the cruel taunting of the man's ocular limitations. But not the fashion-mockery! Don't listen to them, Pete... that trenchcoat is slick, buddy. That trenchcoat is slick!
Begone,
