Queen
I am an unabashed fan of the music of Queen. I have often been described, accurately enough, as a 'Queen buff'. I have less often, and less accurately, been described as a 'buff queen'. (I'm not particularly buff at all...) But while I am a fan, that doesn't mean that I'm oblivious to lyrical flaws in their musical opus. I refer, of course, to their minor 1978 hit Don't Stop Me Now.
In this brazenly upbeat song, Mr Frederick Mercury makes a number of startling claims. He is, allegedly, in turn, 'a racing car', 'a rocket ship on [his] way to Mars', 'a sex machine' as well as the dubiously aliased 'Mr Farenheit'. But these outrageous claims pale next to Mr Mercury's claim in the opening verse that he is 'a shooting star leaping through the sky like a tiger defying the laws of gravity'.
Of course you are, Freddie. You're one of those fearsome flying tigers. Whatever you say, mate. Knock yourself out.
Begone,
