The Oscars
Watched The Oscars last night. I think my favourite part of the ceremony each year is when they go through the list of people who died during the year, showing little clips of their careers. And, most of the people are not particularly famous and get polite applause - as you know, people rarely boo the dead.
But then, some Much Beloved and Sorely Missed Famous Actor will appear and there will be a sudden burst of loud applause, a tribute to this Great Human Being.
And then, and this is my favourite bit, the famous actor will be followed by one of the not-well-known people. But, the applause diminishes only slightly because all the people feel guilty if they imply that Joe Thalberg (sound designer, Revenge of the Nerds 2) is less worthy of their applause than the Famous and Tragically Taken Too Young Famous Star.
So, my tip for everybody is if you're going to die and have your name show up on The Oscars, try and get somebody to position you after a Respected and Beloved Great One of the Cinema. I've already written it into my will. I've asked to be placed after Adam Sandler. How, you may ask, can I be sure that Mr Sandler will die in the same year as me? Well... you just leave that particular detail to me.
Begone,
