Magic Tricks
There was a show on TV last night called The World's Greatest Magic Tricks Revealed. Pretty stupid show, with 'The Masked Magician' revealing, well, the world's greatest magic tricks. And every time the secret to the trick was something like 'You think you see the magician being torn apart by a pair of savage lions but, in fact, it's a robot in a top hat being dismantled by two beautiful assistants disguised as lions' and so on and so forth.
Which is fine. Magic is not real. I can live with that.
But the thing I found strange was that they promoted a few times the fact that at the end of the show they would reveal who 'The Masked Magician' really was. So I tuned back in near the end expecting David Copperfield, or Penn and Teller, or, I don't know, Kelly McGillis - but somebody famous-ish.
He did a big build-up. 'Who is The Masked Magician?' 'Who has been revealing these amazing secrets?' 'Who has taken the fun out of all magic tricks?' and so on and so forth and finally he pulled off his mask and said 'It is I, The Masked Magician'. He said his name but it was just some generic magician name like 'Casanova' or 'Mystico' or something.
So just some bum who knows a few magic tricks wearing a mask. Quite the letdown, I must say.
And now I shall disappear before your very eyes!!! (Actually, I will simply stop typing - the easy tricks are often the most baffling)
