Gremlins
Those of you who know me and, indeed, those of you who do not but have been paying a modicum of attention, know that I am a simple man. I ask for little. I expect even less.
But for the love of all that is holy and pure, how much longer do I have to put up with the shameful lack of clarity in Gremlins?? We have been blessed with a Special Edition of this film and yet, despite this, Spielberg apparently could not find the time or energy to correct the infamously flawed Mogwai instructions.
Don't get the little bastards wet. Fair enough, easily comprehensible. Keep 'em out of the sun. Very wise, a lesson we should all heed. Here's a hat, Gizmo. But don't feed them after midnight??? What kind of instruction is that? For one thing, do the bug-eyed little furballs adjust for daylight saving? And secondly, even if they do comply with local time zones when, exactly, does 'after midnight' end? Can you feed them at 6:00 am?? 5:00 am? 10:30am? Is brunch in or out? The guidelines are hopelessly hazy at best.
When Gremlins 2: The New Batch came out I assumed that this renewed foray into the Mogwai-niverse would provide the clarification for which I had been clamouring. And yet, no. Just more senseless suffering as a result of a product that had been insufficiently user-tested.
It's almost as if, well... as if nobody else cares...
