Grease
I guess the thing that's always bothered me the most about the smash-hit film Grease is this: they set up the rules of their movie universe (1950s High School, rebellious working class greasers with astonishing falsettos, hand-jivin'), play out almost the entire movie in said universe, then suddenly end the film with a jaunt in a flying car. It's jolting and disconcerting and just about ruins the movie. Discombobulated is the word. Or perhaps I'm once again being too harsh. After all, I didn't bat an eyeball when Sally Ann Howes suddenly, and for no clear reason, slutted it up for Dick Van Dyke at the end of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
