Goggomobile Ad
I was reading an article in the paper the other day - somebody was fondly reminiscing about the Goggomobile ad. (And I should state right here that if you have never heard of the Goggomobile ad then you should probably abandon this page right now, 'cause it's just going to seem like incoherent rambling. Unlike the rest of the site, obviously...) Apparently when it was first pitched, the pitcher was told by his superiors that a Goggomobile was too obscure, so he should change it to a Holden Commodore or a Ford Fairlane or something. Which is mildly amusing. The person writing the article then went on to point out how the ad man ignored his superiors and now the Goggomobile ad is considered a classic in Australian advertising history.
Which is a delightful story of triumph and good will. And it is a story that was totally ruined for me by the fact that the writer kept spelling Goggomobile as 'Gogomobile', in complete violation of the spelling instructions in the very ad he just spent the entire article praising!!!
G-O-G-G-O, goddammit!
