Con Air

Watched Con Air last night. A very stupid and brilliant action movie full of explosions and excitement and really evil bad guys who can still make us laugh by saying witty things as they brutally kill people. A perfect evening's entertainment, you might think. And you'd be right. Because right at the end of the movie, the really cool good guy (Nicolas Cage) and the other, not-quite-as-cool-but-still-darn-good guy (John Cusack) have to stop the evil, but witty villain (John Malkovich) who is escaping in a firetruck. They not only do so, but take the time and effort to ride motorcycles in the process, paying homage to that greatest of Eighties TV shows - CHiPs. It was a beautiful moment and I confess I shed a tear or two, thinking how proud Erik Estrada (and the other, less memorable one) would have been, if only they'd been alive to see it. (I'm assuming they're dead - after all, why would they have been kept alive?)

Begone,

Indy
