Breakdown
Watched the movie Breakdown last night. It's a familiar tale. Man's car breaks down, ostensibly helpful trucker pulls up, man's wife goes with trucker to call for help, wife is kidnapped by trucker. The kind of thing that has happened to all of us at one time or another. Ordinarily when this happens to you, you simply shrug your shoulders and accept your fate - these things happen.
However, that was not Kurt Russell's option in the movie. Instead of accepting that, yes, an evil truck-driver had kidnapped his wife, Kurt decided to become very violent and drive dangerously and behave quite recklessly in order to rescue her. Which he did, of course. The kidnapped wife then proceeded to drop a semi-trailer on the evil trucker's head. Of course, the problem with that particular solution is that it really only addresses the symptoms of the problem. To fully rid our roads of evil kidnapper truckers we have to attack the root of the problem.
To that end, I propose the following solution. If, when you ask a child what he wants to be when he grows up, he says 'a murderous kidnapper truck-driver', you should try and gently steer him towards an alternative career such as haberdashery. In this way, the scourge of kidnapper murderous truck-drivers will disappear within a generation. Until that time, however, if a truck-driver stops to help you when you've broken down you should probably shoot him immediately. It will save time later.
Begone,
