24

I'm willing to suspend an enormous amount of disbelief for 24. I'm happy to just lift that incredulity up and attach some kind of rope (or perhaps a series of hooks and velcro) to it and have it just hang there. Go with the flow, that's my rhyming mantra. 'Mosey with a posey' is another (more rarely used) one.

I digress. I'm willing to believe that despite Jack Bauer approaching every situation with a spirited combination of pluck and idiocy he's going to eventually save the day (SPOILER!). I'm also willing to suppose that there exist days where you don't have even half an hour of lazing about, catching one's breath. Heck, I'm even willing to play along with their whole time thing (eg saying 'I'll see you in 20 minutes' rather than 'give me 2 ad breaks' or saying 'this nuclear reactor will melt down on the President's head within the hour' rather than 'by the end of the episode'). It's zany and perfectly translatable.

But the one thing I do struggle to buy is that, with all the computer power at CTU's hands, with all the ubergeeks continually searching for patterns in the day's crises that will help Jack do something stupid to rectify things, nobody ever notices that at about 2 minutes to the hour every hour all kinds of drama reach their peak, only to be resolved at 2 minutes past the hour every single hour. I say, Counter Terrorism Units: Get a cuckoo clock.

Begone,

Indy
