The Village People Wars
In the late 1970s, the brains trust of The Village People voted 5-4 in favour of the final costume of the group being that of a Red Indian. The decision caused much despair and protest among postal workers who had been the bookmakers' overwhelming favourites for the role. 'Have you ever seen a Red Indian deliver packages in a cheap and timely fashion?' was a common rallying call. 'They may have a lot of feathers, but what's their record on stamps?' was another.
The bitterness and resentment at what the postal workers viewed as a calculated snub eventually spilled over into a series of individual shooting rampages. The Village People stood firm, however, refusing to yield to terrorist tactics. Interestingly, the Milk and Dairy Deliverers Union eschewed the terrorism of their postal counterparts, and the milkmen's peaceful protests were eventually rewarded when the Village People recorded their underrated disco classic Do The Milkshake. A powerful lesson indeed.
