Infinite Crisis
Your average comic book reader might think that a Crisis on Infinite Earths was bad news. CRISIS!! Replicated infinitely on every imaginable Earth (including an Earth where Khloe Kardashian is both U.S. President and reigning American Idol winner)!! Could such a devastating tragedy ever be topped? Naive Answer: Of course it can’t be topped. That’s what ‘infinite’ means… Right?
Wrong, naivissimos! Because Georg Cantor proved, way back in 1874 (ie, around issue 113 of X-Men), that there is a hierarchy of infinities. Some infinities are bigger than others. And so it came to pass that, twenty years after the Crisis on Infinite Earths, the mathematically learned bigwigs at DC HQ decided to try and top it. The result? Infinite Crisis.
Maths nerds, get your diagonal proofs ready. Time to quantify the infinites.
