The Flintstones
I understand the basic comic premise of The Flintstones. Contrasting the prehistoric setting of a (Creationist-approved, human-dinosaur co-existing) Stone Age with modern day concerns and issues. That’s a perfectly sound comedic basis for a long-running cartoon sitcom. However, I do think that sometimes the writers went a little bit too far with their use of the obscure prehistoric references, to the confusion of the audience and detriment of the humour.
For example, right in the opening credits, the entire cast head off to something called a ‘drive-in movie’. Huh??!? Come on Hanna! Give us a chance, Barbera!! Not all of us have college-level paleontological training, guys!
