In Jim ‘Don’t Call Me Neil’ Diamond’s 1984 smash hit masterpiece, I Should Have Known Better, Jim sings plaintively and ‘ai-ai-ai-ai’-ingly about how he should have known better to ‘lie to one as beautiful as you’.

I applaud this lyric. Jim acknowledges, in a way the rest of us refuse, the inextricable link between physical attractiveness and the requirement for genuine straightforwardness in interpersonal relationships. Don’t lie to the hotties, is Jim’s message to us all. It will only lead to tears. Save your infernal mistruths for the uggers.

Thanks Jim. I’ll go sort matters out with Charlize right away.

Tori, on the other hand, will just have to wait.
